Go to any hobby store, and especially any GW store, go look at the "Age of Sigmar" models, over half of the units in that games rules represent "old" models they never sold, and still have tons of in stock, more accurate when AoS first came out, but lol I still see some boxes at my stores I know been there from recognising creases, scuff etc on box itself XD talking been there for decade or longer. The entry level to learn game and build army was just way too high and was not sustainable as a business model to just serve same fanbase every generation. But I know little to nothing about aos or 40k as neither particularly interest me so can only speculate on that.īest way think about it i've found is same way look at all causes, etc leading up to WWI, or video game crash of 1983 - That for example deff part of it, but so many factors it's impossible to point finger other than at GW in general and the fact all fluff, lore, books, plans to update game rules etc aside - Warhammer Fantasy Battles was a financial loss for the company for years, game killed itself ultimately. It may also have been done to make it more similar to 40k (which is much more popular than fantasy was) to try and appeal to a larger audience. they couldn't copyright things like "elves" for obvious reasons, but if they use a race called "aelves" instead, I guess they can. I've heard it was largely for copyright reasons, ie. Originally posted by Kapika96:End Times was also largely just an excuse for Games Workshop to scrap a load of Warhammer stuff and effectively start a new thing (age of sigmar) from scratch. I didn't try it out yet, but judging by Youtube gameplay it's quite solid. If you're interested in seeing Grudgebringers or Dread King Legions (mixing TK and VC units) in TW: WH 2, I recommend OvN Lost Factions mod. He even looks the part more or less, being some 5 meter tall skeleton clad in a heavy armour and blasting Doombolts left, right and center. I even have a little theory that at some point in development Mindscape planned the Dread King to be Nagash, but had to tune him down to "one of Nagashes Dark Lords" to prevent the story from getting out of proportion. The Dread King from Dark Omen indeed has very strong Tomb Kings vibe to him, rising from the pyramid in the Nehekhara and all. VC army book came out just a year later in 1999, deleting the Skeleton Archers, Mummies, Screaming Skull catapults and Carrion from the vampire army. The VC-TK split happened in the 5th edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battles, and by the time Dark Omen was released (March 1998), the Undead were still using the rules from their '94 4th edition army book. You're right regarding the Undead army being part Vampire Counts and part Tomb Kings in Dark Omen. If somebody has more experience in this kind of matchup, please let me know. Well, there are no real Black Grail Knights in TW:WH 2, but if you compare Grail Knights to the vampire Blood Knights (which I guess would be the closest equivalent to BGK), their stats are quite close, so I guess the fight could go either way. Hey look, it's Cuthalion! I remember you from Dark Omen forum! Repanse (As a paladin and champion of the lady) might have gotten the opportunity to sup from the grail, if so she would be immortal unless fallen in battle (not suffering age or disease). Not sure how long Warhammer fantasy Goblins can live if not killed (or if Grom with his regen would even have a normal Goblin lifespan), but Grom just disappeared at the end of his conflict with the High Elves, no corpse was found and some says he is hiding in those mountains while other says he flew away on a wyvern. While CA has stated that they will add characters they think are cool and fitting regardless of the timeline, it should be mentioned that neither Grom nor Repanse has ever been confirmed dead in the lore (at least as far as i know, feel free to correct me if you know otherwise). It's actually more like the actual tabletop game where, if you had the rules and model for Repanse, she could interract with Karl Franz or Grimgor, even if that would be impossible in canon lore. Some characters like Grom the paunch and Repanse are looong dead in that age.
